Burning Ambulance reviews a new album from Runhild Gammelsaeter and Lasse Marhaug.

An upcoming concert by Ayman Fanous and Susan Alcorn will feature improvised music for guitar, bouzouki, prepared guitar, and pedal steel guitar, Friday, January 30, at 7:30 PM, St. John’s Episcopal Church, 5649 Mount Gilead Road, Centreville, VA 20120. Free admission.

Association for the Promotion of New Music will honor classical violinist Rolf Schulte for lifetime achievement March 4 at Merkin Concert Hall. Hundreds of composers owe him a debt for championing their works, including: Elliott Carter, Donald Martino, Fred Lerdahl, Milton Babbitt, and Mario Davidovsky. Mr. Schulte, on principle, championed these works to small acclaim, compared with the recognition he would have received had he played just the standard repertoire. The concert will feature Rolf Schulte, solo violin, Stephen Gosling, piano, Misha Amory, viola, Eric Bartlett, cello, and David Grossman, bass, and this group will perform works of DeBussy, Biggs, Stravinsky, Peel, and Lerdahl.  A Kickstarter has been launched to fund the concert.

Pianist/Composer Myra Melford will release a new recording by Snowy Egret on March 10. The album will feature Ron Miles (cornet), Liberty Ellman (guitar), Stomu Takeishi (acoustic bass guitar), and Tyshawn Sorey (drums). Melford will curate a week at The Stone NYC March 24-29th with Snowy Egret to perform Two sets on March 28th.
