Amazon.com has launched Smile, a way a way for you to fund a charitable organization. Amazon will donate a portion of the

price of your purchases to your favorite charitable organization. A number of charities have signed up and I have chosen Portland’s Creative Music Guild. Hopefully other creative music organizations will use the program as well.

Francois Carrier has two new releases out, Russian Concerts 1 and 2, with Carrier, Michel Lambert, and Alexey Lapin. Volume 2, for example, features 8 pieces Recorded live in Moscow at Nikitskaya Jewish Cultural Center (JCC) on April 28 and in St. Petersburg at ESG-21 (Experimental Sound Gallery) on April 29 and JFC Jazz Club on April 30, 2013.

Avant-rock gurus Mr. Bungle are releasing their catalog on vinyl.

Robert D. Bielecki has started a foundation, and some of his first grants have gone to Matthew Shipp, Fred Van Hove, and Downtown Music.

The 35th Festival for Free & Improvised Music is reviewed.

George Crumb’s Ancient Voices for Children was performed at the BAM.
