From Jazz Right Now:

Cisco Bradley: You played with the Matana Roberts Quartet. I would love to hear about your involvement with that. Maybe I am wrong, but it was my impression that that band never recorded.

Tomas Fujiwara: There actually is a record, a live record, called The Calling, it was basically done on the room mic at Zebulon at one of our gigs. We had a regular gig there about once a month or once every six weeks.

AMN Picks of the Week: D.C. Improvisers Collective / Blood Trio / André Foisy / Keir Neuringer / Richard Pinhas / Barry Guy

The Italian free jazz combo Jooklo Duo are joined in a trio by guitarist Bill Nace— best known as half of Body/Head— with whom they released a collaborative album in 2012.

FRI, APRIL 11 – 8:00PM
Mark Fell
$15 / $12 MEMBERS + STUDENTS
In recent years Mark Fell’s practice has included a number of tonal works. These typically have little or no rhythmic content and often explore unfamiliar tuning systems. Tonight Fell presents a tonal mix of extended duration including new and unreleased works by himself as well as references to the various traditions that have informed his practice. In particular Fell is keen to establish a dialogue between the American minimalists, including Terry Riley and the more recent works of Zbigniew Karkowski, Carl Michael von Hausswolff and others, engaging the spectrally lush tonal structures pioneered by Christophe Charles and popularized by Christian Fennesz.
