Musical careers rarely follow the perfect and regular incisions of historians and calendars. And yet, for John Butcher, the early 1990s really did mark the beginning of a new phase. Some of his London-based creative partnerships were fading away, as the Russell/Durrant/Butcher trio and his membership in the Chris Burn’s Ensemble came to an end. At the same time, different, equally promising collaborations emerged.
