Coming to the ISSUE Project Room

From NY’s ISSUE Project Room:

TUE, DECEMBER 10 – 8:00PM
Ensemble Pamplemousse: Works by Alvin Lucier & Klaus Lang
$15 / $12 MEMBERS + STUDENTS
Ensemble Pamplemousse open their decennary season with a program focussed on works by composers Alvin Lucier and Klaus Lang. Fabrics of heightened minimalism create musical tapestries that invite the listener to rediscover acoustic mechanics taken for granted in everyday experience. The program includes three works by each, plus pieces by composers Natacha Diels and Andrew Greenwald.

WED, DECEMBER 11 – 8:00PM
Artist-In-Residence:
James Hoff
FREE / SUGGESTED DONATION $10
Paralleling several recent series devoted to the overlap between idea-based art, culture bound illnesses, conceptual poetics, and various studio-based practices, James Hoff has devoted his residency to studying and exploring the concept of involuntary musical imagery, or earworms, as the basis for musical compositions. For this final installment, Hoff debuts two new works for tuba and French horn derived from disco and pop earworms. The artist has manipulated, pitched, cut, and re-arranged original songs to reflect the cinematic character of the earworm phenomenon.

SAT, DECEMBER 14 – 8:00PM
Artist-In-Residence:
Jules Rosskam with Madsen Minax
GHOST TRIP
FREE / SUGGESTED DONATION $10
Jules Rosskam premieres a new collaboration with Madsen Minax, GHOST TRIP. A series of short videos features live musical accompaniment as both structured and improvisational responses to the visuals. Minax performs on a range of instruments incorporating percussion and electronics, and in a series of supplementary audio introductions teaches simple vocal parts to the audience, who facilitate the emergence of a makeshift chorus.
