American Symphony Orchestra (Sunday) Leon Botstein leads this ensemble in a tribute to Elliott Carter, one year after he died at age 103. The clarinetist Anthony McGill, the soprano Mary Mackenzie and the mezzo-soprano Teresa Buchholz join this survey of some of Carter’s most important works. White Light Festival (Tuesday and Thursday through Nov. 23) On Tuesday, the intensely accomplished JACK Quartet will plunge the audience into complete darkness for its performance of the Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas’s “String Quartet No. 3,” whose score specifies that it is to be experienced through the ears only. Starting on Thursday, the Mark Morris Dance Group revisits one of Mr. Morris’s most loved works, “L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato,” the incandescently joyful setting of Handel’s oratorio based on poems by Milton. The charismatic early-music specialist Nicholas McGegan conducts the MMDG Music Ensemble and the Riverside Choral Society Chamber Singers as well as a fine cast of soloists: the sopranos Dominique Labelle and Yulia Van Doren and the tenor John McVeigh. Charles Wuorinen Tribute (Wednesday) The 75th birthday of this modernist master is celebrated with a concert featuring some of his works for solo piano and string quartet, performed by the musicians he composed them for: the Brentano String Quartet and the pianists Ursula Oppens, Alan Feinberg and Anne-Marie McDermott.
