Interview with Morton Subotnick

Morton Subotnick Checks Out Bluetooth Violin Bow

From Roulette:

Morton Subotnick is a seminal figure in the history of 20th Century music as electronic music pioneer, composer, and experimenter of the highest calibre. In the 1960s, Subotnick advanced both the imagination and the language of electronic music by taking Don Buchla’s initial synthesizers builds into uncharted territories with his 1968 work, From Silver Apples of the Moon, which is widely regarded as one of the very first – and finest – examples of long-form electronic-based music. In this interview, Subotnick discusses the latest project, From Silver Apples of the Moon to a Sky of Cloudless Sulphur IV: LUCY, a collaboration with visual artist Lillevan which brings him to the Roulette stage and beyond, and talks about his influences, and the prescient early insights that propelled his extraordinary career and art.
