From www.grexsounds.com:

Grex closes off an eventful 2013 with a very special run of Bay Area shows, including a special concert with legendary guitarist Fred Frith (Henry Cow, Massacre) and the first and only live performance of the Taglish album in its entirety. The band returns to San Francisco’s Tiny Telephone in November to record the balance of its new album, Monster Music, due late 2013/early 2014. Finally, Grex is proud to announce its participation on the 2014 Switchboard Music Festival–more details to come!

October 23, 9:30pm, Sing Out!: An Evening of Improvisation, Song, and General Unpredictability (Fred Frith/Patrice Scanlon Duo, Grex, Dominique Leone Band) @ The Knockout, San Francisco

Fred Ho Donates Life’s Work to UConn

Fred Ho (cropped version)

From The UConn Daily Campus:

Revolutionary musician Fred Ho, who is enduring the final phase of his colorectal cancer, has donated his life’s work to UConn. It is impossible to pinpoint Ho’s musical influences or to assign him to a genre simply because, on both counts, he has so many. He plays the Baritone Saxophone in an unsettling, rhythmic and engaging way – the instrument carving Ho a niche in Jazz, and even Swing music. Yet, he has been commissioned by such Classical music institutions as the Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music and the American Composers Orchestra.
