From Dusted:

Ken Vandermark, stalwart of the Chicago improv scene and MacArthur “Genius” Grant-recipient, has been immersed in music since an early age. His father was a well-known jazz critic, and Vandermark’s been performing since he started taking saxophone lessons at the age of 16 — he also plays the bass clarinet and baritone saxophone. By way of Boston, Vandermark moved to Chicago in the late-1980s, and since then, the reedist has worked with a contingent of incredible musicians, including Mats Gustafsson, Joe McPhee and Peter Brötzmann, and led groups like DKV Trio and the Vandermark 5. His current groups include Made To Break, The Resonance Ensemble, Side A, Lean Left and Fire Room.
