We are proud to announce the 25th season of the Interpretations concert series! Showcasing distinctive creative voices from around the world and right here in New York, this season promises a compelling mix of artists at the vanguard of their field, esoteric innovators, and emerging talents. Works are included by such composers as Muhal Richard Abrams, Gordon Beeferman, Tim Brady, Anthony Braxton, Gene Coleman, John Encarnacao, Annie Gosfield, Bruce Gremo, Eric Griswold, Arthur Kampela, Yusef Lateef, Anne LeBaron, Annea Lockwood, Walter Marchetti, Pauline Oliveros, Adam Rudolph, & JG Thirlwell. Also featured are such innovative performers as Ross Bolleter, Thomas Buckner, Tom Hamilton, James Ilgenfritz, Joan La Barbara, the Momenta String Quartet, Ned Rothenberg, & Reinier Van Houdt.

Composer/pianist and AACM founder Abrams premieres “Dialogue Social”, a new evening-length work. Part 1: Muhal Richard Abrams solo piano; part 2: Ensemble, with Richarda Abrams, Meaghan Burke, Thomas Buckner, Tom Chiu, Kidambi, Joseph Kubera, Amina Claudine Myers, Tom Hamilton, Tom Chiu, J.D. Parran, & Warren Smith.

Gene Coleman & Ensemble N_JP // Momenta string quartet plays Yusef Lateef, Arthur Kampela, Gordon Beeferman, & Adam Rudolph.

Gene Coleman presents “Spiral Network” (NY Premiere) & “Sendai Transmissions” (World Premiere commissioned by Chamber Music America), performed by Ensemble N_JP, an ongoing cross-cultural project with Japanese and Western instruments, with special guest Thomas Buckner. Momenta will perform string quartets composed by improvisers, including Yusef Lateef, Arthur Kampela, Gordon Beeferman (with Stephanie Sleeper, choreography), & a world premiere by Adam Rudolph.

Composer Anne LeBaron presents “Breathtrails” and other works, with FLUX Quartet, Thomas Buckner, Ralph Samuelson (shakuhachi), & LeBaron (harp). Australian pianist Ross Bolleter presents music for ‘Ruined Piano’, as well as improvisations with Thomas Buckner.

Ilgenfritz presents work from his recent CD ‘Compositions (Braxton) 2011’ plus “Trio For Trumpet, Accordion, and String Bass”, a classic mid-60s work from Pauline Oliveros, & two premieres for bass & live electronics from Gosfield & Thirlwel. Van Houdt presents a solo piano performance of Italian avant-garde composer Walter Marchetti’s new solo piano work “Concerto per la Mano Sinistra in un Solo Movimento”, or ‘Concerto for the Left Hand in One Movement’.

Gremo presents new solo and duo works, with Gremo performing on his electronic instrument the Cilia, an alternate wind controller based on the shakuhachi, with Hu Jianbing (sheng & bawu). La Barbara weaves her own unique sonic world, layering her signature vocal techniques with natural and electronic sounds, creating other-worldly dreamscapes.

Tom Hamilton // Ned Rothenberg’s Inner Diaspora

Electronics artist Tom Hamilton’s new work presents layers of electronic sound that gradually shift through kaleidoscopic rearrangement, serving as the foundation for a group of improvising performers. Rothenberg’s Inner Diaspora features Mark Feldman, violin; Erik Friedlander, cello; Jerome Harris, acoustic bass guitar & guitar; Samir Chatterjee, tabla; & Rothenberg on clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax & shakuhachi.

All concerts start at 8PM unless otherwise noted.
