Newsbits: Abbey Rader / 12k Releases / 4thirtythree in Brighton / New Magma DVD

MAGMA LIVE
MAGMA LIVE (Photo credit: alainalele)

The Abbey Rader Quartet will perform Thursday, May 23, 2013, 8pm at Audiotheque, 924 Lincoln Road, Studio 201, Miami Beach, FL. The Abbey Rader Quartet brings its fiery brand of jazz to Audiotheque on May 23. After performing together for nearly two years, this unit is at the peak of their powers. Their music is an improvisational journey only possible when the individual musicians fade away and commit to playing together in the moment. The result is a gripping, spiritual sound best witnessed live.

The 12k label will be releasing Seaworthy + Taylor Deupree – Wood, Winter, Hollow and Illuha – Interstices.

On May 29th, at 8pm, 4thirtythree (Chris Parfitt – soprano sax, flute, piano, loops, vocals, Tim Rancelant – tenor sax, flute, spoken word, Stuart Revill – guitar) will perform at the Safe House Brighton, 132 Dyke Road, Brighton BN1 3TE, UK.

French Music Legends Magma Release EPOK 5 on DVD. EPOK 5 not only includes pieces from 1971, 1977 and 1978 but also Félicité Thösz, the latest MAGMA release, heard here in a version prior to the recording of the album. There are, in addition, 20 minutes of unpublished music.

Chicago reedist Dave Rempis launches Aerophonic Records

Dave Rempis

From the Bleader a preview of Dave Rempis’s Wheelhouse tonight in Chicago, as well as info on his new label.

The trio includes reedist Dave Rempis and, as I explained in my Soundboard item, the concert is in part a celebration of Boss of the Plains, the trio’s excellent debut album. It will soon be released by Aerophonic, the promising new imprint operated by Rempis to circumvent his frustration with farming out the job of getting his work to the public to other labels, as well as to take a more direct role in his commerce.

9Volt in New Haven Tonight

From The Uncertainty Music Series:

Please come out to The Uncertainty Music Series this Saturday to hear the trio 9 Volt. This is a hard-hitting group featuring dense and atmospheric compositions for trombone, electronics, guitar, and drums. Just take a listen to their debut album here: http://outnowrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/open-circuit This will be a very special concert. Never Ending Books is a great place to music. Please bring friends, food, and drinks and enjoy the music in a casual atmosphere.
