Twenty Perfect Jazz Albums of the 21st Century

English: Photography of William Parker at Jazz...

The Numeral Nine Music Blog opines on 20 perfect jazz albums. Included are works by The Bad Plus, The Claudia Quintet, Nels Cline, William Parker, Matthew Shipp, and others.

To me at least, jazz is alive and thriving, and to make my case, I’ve listed twenty jazz albums released since 2000 that I consider essentially perfect, worthy of five stars. I’m mostly ignoring larger influence and thinking more on a personal level. These are albums that continue to totally captivate me after countless listenings. There are many more albums I love and am tempted to include—and on another day I might—but these are the ones that say to me right now “five stars” rather than “four and a half.”
