From NYTimes.com:

Instant Strangers (Wednesday) Don’t be thrown by the name, which proudly claims an alienated affect for this intrepid new collective. There’s enough shared vision among its members — the alto and baritone saxophonist Tim Berne, the guitarist Mary Halvorson, the bassist Stephan Crump and the drummer Tomas Fujiwara — to keep the conversation humming. At 8:30 p.m., Cornelia Street Café, 29 Cornelia Street, Greenwich Village, (212) 989-9319, corneliastreetcafe.com; $20 cover, includes one drink. (Chinen)

Ingrid Laubrock’s Anti-House (Tuesday) Celebrating the release of “Strong Place” (Intakt), her fine second album with the restless unit she calls Anti-House, the saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock re-engages with improvisers just as resourceful with texture as she is: the guitarist Mary Halvorson, the pianist Kris Davis, the bassist Sean Conly and the drummer Tom Rainey. At 8:30 p.m., Cornelia Street Café, 29 Cornelia Street, Greenwich Village, (212) 989-9319, corneliastreetcafe.com; $20 cover, includes one drink. (Chinen)

Odean Pope Trio (Monday) The tenor saxophonist Odean Pope is a figure of eminence in his hometown, Philadelphia, and his musical legacy — as a disciple of John Coltrane, a jazz-funk vanguardist and an organizer of saxophonic timbre — has earned a kind of cult admiration worldwide. As on a spirited recent album, “Odean’s Three” (In + Out), he works here with the bassist Lee Smith and the drummer Billy Hart, an earthy and dynamic rhythm team. At 8 and 10:30 p.m., Blue Note, 131 West Third Street, Greenwich Village, (212) 475-8592, bluenote.net; $20 cover at tables, $10 at the bar, with a $5 minimum. (Chinen)
