Thursday Nov 29 at the Lighthouse Tavern in Roger’s Park, IL, Colour and Sound play a tribute to Fred Anderson.  First set: jim baker – piano / jimmy bennington – drums duo, second set: fred jackson – saxophone, jerome croswell – trumpet, brian sandstrom – bass, special guest jiim baker.

Karlheinz Stockhausen‘s Natural Durations 1-12 will have its New York Premier at Grace United Methodist Church Performed by David Buddin, December 9, 4:00pm. Grace United Methodist Church presents pianist David Buddin (voted best New York composer 2012 by the Village Voice) performing the New York premier of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Natural Durations 1-12. The concert will be held on Sunday, December 2 at 4pm, free admission. This is the first half of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s vast meditation on piano sonority. One of Stockhausen’s last pieces, it is the third “hour” of his ‘Klang’ cycle, derived from a single twenty-four-note set ran through a myriad of permutations and transformations.

Potlatch has a new release out from Pluie Fine, which is Angharad Davies (violin) and Cremaster consisting of Alfredo Costa Monteiro (electro-acoustic devices, speakers, electric guitar) and Ferran Fages (feedback mixing board, electro-acoustic devices). It was composed, recorded & assembled between September 2010 and July 2012 in Barcelona. Violin parts recorded by Kostis Kilymis on march 2012 in Oxford.

Steve Swell & Omar Tamez and Douglas R. Ewart & Inventions will perform Thursday December 6, 2012, 8PM at Roulette, in Downtown Brooklyn. An evening of concert works for ensembles on the cutting edge of composition, improvisation, and integrative arts! NYC’s renowned trombonist/composer Steve Swell teams up with guitarist/composer Omar Tamez to pay homage to Tamez’ father Nicandro Tamez, a prolific yet unsung Mexican composer in the avant-garde tradition, while Swell also premieres his new long-form work Composite the two composer/performers have assembled an amazing band including Darius Jones (alto sax), Jonathan Golove (cello), & James Ilgenfritz (bass). Renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist Douglas R. Ewart presents Water is Tops, a mesmerizing multimedia work using sound, spoken word, movement arts, and his unusual musical invention, Sonic Tops, to explore the sonic, ritual, philosophical aspects of water. Featuring movement and poetry from Mankwe Ndosi, Ni’Ja Whitson, & Jenelle Speller, & instrumentalists Donald Smith (piano), J.D. Parran (woodwinds), Warren Smith (drums, percussion), & Douglas R. Ewart (woodwinds, electronics, voice).
