Portland’s Creative Music Guild is featuring the John Gross Trio and Grammies at the Revival Drum Shop, 1465 NE Prescott, Wednesday, November 21, 8 pm, $5-$15 sliding scale. All ages.

Saxophonist/composer Jon Irabagon will celebrate the release of his two new recordings, I Don’t Hear Nothin’ But the Blues Volume 2: Appalachian Haze and Unhinged, as well as the launch of his new label, Irabbagast Records, at Cornelia Street Café in New York on December 6th and 7th.

Recent tour dates in Germany by guitarist Willie Oteri (Spiral Out, WD-41, Tony Levin, Mike Keneally, etc) have produced several live recordings that will be mixed and released with a new band name of Shrunken Head Shop. Look for a release date in January or February of 2013. Shrunken Head Shop is a core group of musicians from the United Sates and Germany, Willie Oteri – guitar, Sylvia Oelkrug – violin, Schroeder – drums and Jan Fitschen – bass and stick with special guests including Dave Laczko – electric trumpet and Italian bassist Alex Arcuri.

Trumpeter / Composer Ben Holmes releases Skirl Records debut Anvil of the Lord Featuring fellow Brooklyn musicians Curtis Hasselbring (trombone), Matt Pavolka (bass) and Vinnie Sperrazza (drums) on November 12th.

KALA, featuring Thollem McDonas on piano and Gregg Skloff on bass will play Sun., Dec. 9th at 1017 Marine Dr., Astoria, Oregon 97103 at 7pm. Additionally, Thollem McDonas (piano) and Amy Denio (multi-instrumentalist/singer) will play Tues., Dec. 4th at the Chapel Performance Space, Good Shepherd Center, 4th floor, 4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103 at 8 p.m.

    Re McDonas & Skloff, Dec. 9:
    KALA is the name of the venue, not the ensemble. The ensemble (which will also include Paul Hoskin & Chris Johnedis) doesn’t really have a name, yet…
