Michaël Attias’s Spun Tree (Saturday) To celebrate the release of “Spun Tree,” his new album on Clean Feed, Michaël Attias, a saxophonist and composer of coolly investigative temperament, regroups a smart ensemble with the trumpeter Ralph Alessi, the pianist Matt Mitchell, the bassist Sean Conly and the drummer Tom Rainey. Michael Bates Quartet (Friday) The bassist Michael Bates brings a prickly fluency to his role as bandleader and arranger on “Acrobat: Music for, and by, Dmitri Shostakovich,” his most recent Sunnyside release. He lines up a slightly different ensemble for this engagement, but one with a comparable skill set: Donny McCaslin on saxophones, Ben Monder on guitar and Clarence Penn on drums. Peter Evans / John Eckhardt’s ‘Xylobiont’ (Thursday) Mr. Evans, a trumpeter with a dazzlingly expressive command of timbre and texture, and Mr. Eckhardt, a bassist of similar technical reserves, perform alone and together as part of the Interpretations series at Roulette. Mr. Evans has worked extensively with solo improvisation; as for Mr. Eckhardt, he recently released a solo bass album, “Xylobiont” (Psi). Festival of New Trumpet Music (Friday through Sunday) This festival closes its 10th anniversary edition at the Jazz Standard, with a different group each night. On Friday the serious-minded trumpeter and composer Charles Tolliver leads a revamped version of his band Music Inc., featuring Bruce Davis on guitar, Xavier Davis on piano, Devin Starks on bass and Gene Jackson on drums. On Saturday another post-bop veteran, Tom Harrell, presents a promisingly lean quartet with the saxophonist Mark Turner, the bassist Ugonna Okegwo and the drummer Adam Cruz. And on Sunday the Brazilian ace Claudio Roditi joins the West Point Jazz Knights Big Band, in a pair of free sets. Adam Rudolph’s Go: Organic Orchestra (Monday) This meditative large ensemble, scheduled to perform at Roulette every Monday night this month, is a project of the open-minded percussionist, composer and conductor Adam Rudolph. Drawing inspiration from earthy and elemental sources, it features a diverse whorl of woodwinds, strings, percussion, electronics and guitars.
