From NYTimes.com:

Zs is a band; it’s also a perpetual itch, an index of unease around the restrictions of genre in New York experimental music. Since it started making records 10 years ago, it has consisted of the lanky, bearded, restless tenor saxophonist Sam Hillmer, with various others. It has made instrumental music, except for a few songs that use words as tough little compositional elements. It has always used notation, but doesn’t perform with scores on paper anymore, in the interest of immediacy.
