Newsbits: Dal Niente / Budd / TranceFormation / Dubstep

Ensemble Dal Niente was been awarded the Kranichstein Music Prize, the highest honor for performers at the 46th Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (International Summer Courses for New Music) in Darmstadt, Germany. In other news, Dal Niente will play their first concert in Chicago this season as part of the International Beethoven Festival on September 11, 2012. This performance includes Salvatore Sciarrino‘s Vanitas as well as the US premiere of Evan Johnson’s die bewegung der augen, which was premiered in Darmstadt and which also won the composer a Stipendiumpreis.

Ambient composer and performer Harold Budd is interviewed.

The Secret Drum Band and DUBAI will play at Portland’s Revival Drum Shop, 1465 NE Prescott, Wednesday, September 5, 8 pm.

TranceFormation, the trio of Connie Crothers (piano), Ken Filiano (bass), and Andrea Wolper (voice) will release a new album, In Concert, on October 9.
