From Improvised Communications:
On Wednesday, August 8th, guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson‘s Reverse Blue will play its first gig of the year at Barbès in Brooklyn. The group, which features Chris Speed (saxophone and clarinet), Eivind Opsvik (bass) and Tomas Fujiwara (drums), began its life as a one-off collaboration as part of Search And Restore’s Spontaneous Construction series at Blue Note Jazz Club, but has since become a working ensemble performing Ms. Halvorson’s original music.
This date, one of three New York concerts that week by groups Ms. Halvorson leads or co-leads, will be followed by what she’s calling A Weekend Of Trios at Cornelia Street Café. On Friday, August 10th, she’ll play two sets with her oldest group, the Mary Halvorson Trio, featuring bassist John Hébert and drummer Ches Smith. The following night, she’ll play two sets with the increasingly active collective trio Thumbscrew featuring bassist Michael Formanek and drummer Tomas Fujiwara.
