Coming to the ISSUE Project Room

From New York’s ISSUE Project Room:

An Evening with Man Forever
Friday June 29 – 8pm

Man Forever is the composition project of drummer John Colpitts aka Kid Millions, best known for his 15-year involvement in experimental rock band Oneida. This evening serves as a portrait of his work for Man Forever, an ever-growing ensemble featuring the contributions of a number of key players in the Brooklyn music scene. On Friday he will be joined by the drummers Greg Fox (Guardian Alien), Josh Bonati (Aa), Ryan Sawyer (Stars Like Fleas), and Bryan Devendorf (the National).

This performance celebrates his recent release, Pansophical Cataract, on the Thrill Jockey label. In addition to works for tuned drums, Kid will present new ensemble pieces for guitar and voices.

SPY MUSIC FEST:

Rhys Chatham + Neptune + Extra Life
Saturday June 30 – 7pm, doors at 6pm

Composer Rhys Chatham is joined by Neptune and Extra Life, presented at ISSUE Project Room in partnership with Northern Spy Records as part of the second annual SPY MUSIC FESTIVAL.

Rhys Chatham will perform his now-classic Guitar Trio (1977) with nine guitarists, one bassist, and one drummer. Including Adam Wills (Bear in Heaven, February), Charlie Looker (Extra Life), Mark Pearson (Neptune), Jason Sanford (Neptune), Kevin Micka (Neputne), Sarah Lipstate (Noveller), Sarah Richardson (Blues, ex-Creeping Nobodies), Steve Gunn, Chris Weiss, Caley Monahan-Ward (Extra Life, bass), and Kid Millions (Man Forever, Oneida, drums).

Marc Ribot Trio at the Village Vanguard Reviewed

From NYTimes.com:

A charged and tingly curiosity preceded the guitarist Marc Ribot’s opening set at the Village Vanguard on Tuesday night. The room was packed tight, and the air thick with anticipation: this would be Mr. Ribot’s first engagement as a leader at the Vanguard, which is still a coveted milestone for almost any jazz musician. And his trio, with the bassist Henry Grimes and the drummer Chad Taylor, suggested both a convulsive departure from the club’s center-lane programming and the reverent ennobling of a chapter in its history.
