New Haven, CT – New Haven-based musicians Carl Testa and Broadcloth embark on their first tour of the southern US in late June. They start in Philadelphia, PA and go as far south as Atlanta, GA. The day after the tour they will perform a homecoming show co-presented by Intercambio and The Uncertainty Music Series at Intercambio’s performance space at 756 Chapel St.
Broadcloth performs improvised music with a nod to various compositional outlets. Using a unique instrumentation of voice, cello and accordion/recorders, the trio plays from notated, graphic, embroidered, and textual scores in addition to completely spontaneous pieces. Without shying away from virtuosity, Broadcloth creates music that reflects the order of composition and the risk of unpredictable musical interactions. Emphasis lies on establishing a holistic sound that favors cooperation over hierarchy.
Composer Carl Testa’s music for solo bass and electronics incorporates live sampling of the bass and granular synthesis to create textural and melodic ambient music. He uses custom software he designed using the SuperCollider audio programming language in order to input the sounds of his bass into preset and algorithmic structures.
