From NYTimes.com:

Tim Berne, Tyshawn Sorey, Ryan Ferreira (Tuesday) Mr. Berne, an alto saxophonist and composer drawn to raw texture and knotty convolution, matches up with a pair of ambitious younger players, each bringing his own ideas: Mr. Sorey, on drums, and Mr. Ferreira, on guitar. At 10:30 p.m., Korzo, 667 Fifth Avenue, at 20th Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn , (718) 285-9425, myspace.com/konceptions; $10 suggested donation, with a two-drink minimum. (Chinen)

Cryptogramphone at the Stone (Tuesday through Nov. 13) Cryptogramophone, a stylishly progressive Los Angeles label run by the violinist Jeff Gauthier, has taken over the Stone for the next couple of weeks, airing out its left-of-center aesthetic one show at a time. Among the early highlights are a duo performance by the multireedist Vinny Golia and the pianist Denman Maroney (Tuesday at 10 p.m.); Gregg Bendian’s Trio Pianissimo, led by Mr. Bendian, a drummer and composer (Thursday at 8 p.m.); and Goat Structure, an ensemble with Mr. Gauthier, Mr. Bendian, the pianist David Witham and the bassist Steuart Liebig (Thursday at 10 p.m.). At 8 and 10 p.m., the Stone, Avenue C and Second Street, East Village, thestonenyc.com; $10 cover per set. (Chinen)

Rudresh Mahanthappa: Samdhi (Tuesday and Wednesday) At heart Mr. Mahanthappa, an alto saxophonist of slashing clarity, has long been a proponent of fusion, at least in the cross-cultural sense of the word. His new album, “Samdhi” (ACT), evokes another usage: it’s a driving electro-acoustic album with the guitarist David Gilmore, the bassist Rich Brown, the drummer Damion Reid and the mridangam player Anand Ananthakrishnan. (All but Mr. Ananthakrishnan resurface here.) At 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., Jazz Standard, 116 East 27th Street, Manhattan, (212) 576-2232, jazzstandard.net; $20 cover. (Chinen)

Medeski Martin & Wood and Antibalas (Saturday) Medeski Martin & Wood — the shrewd and unsinkable groove band, now celebrating its 20th year — has long been celebrated for its Halloween shows, and this should be no exception. The band is teaming up with Antibalas, the high-octane Brooklyn Afrobeat group that powered “Fela!” on Broadway; each headliner will play one set, and then they’ll combine for a roiling finale. At 8 p.m., Terminal 5, 610 West 56th Street, Clinton, (800) 745-3000, terminal5nyc.com; $27.50 in advance, $35 on the day of the show. (Chinen)
