The pianist Taka Kigawa, a gifted interpreter of 20th-century and contemporary repertory, offered that four-movement work during a well-attended recital at Le Poisson Rouge on Monday evening. Many of Mr. Boulez’s later pieces, particularly those for small ensemble, are densely complex but also visceral and colorful. But the second sonata — with which Mr. Boulez wanted to destroy the traditional sonata form — represents the composer at his most formidable.
