From Montreal Mirror:

While this year Victoriaville commemorates the 150th anniversary of its founding in 1861, music fans are more likely to celebrate 1983, the inaugural year of the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville. The town’s population of 40,000 swells by hundreds every Patriots’ Day weekend as passionate freaks from all over the globe congregate at the local hockey arena and movie theatre. Regular attendees, many addicted since the 1980s, come not only for the shows but for the informal reviews and impromptu debates among old friends. Beginning today, an exhausting 19 concerts over four days promise the usual eclectic mix of avant jazz, rock, electronics and the unclassifiable.
