Streaming traditional Iraqi music with American free jazz, Amir ElSaffar leads his sextet, Two Rivers, Friday, April 29, at 8:30 and 10 p.m. in an encore appearance at New Haven’s Firehouse 12.

The maestro of Middle Eastern modalities, who performs on trumpet, voice and santoor (hammered dulcimer), is joined at Firehouse 12 by Nasheet Waits, drums; Carlo DeRosa, bass; Tareq Abboushi, buzuq (goblet-shaped hand drum) and percussion; Zaafir Tawil, oud (an Arab lute or mandolin-like instrument), violin and dumbek (a long-necked fretted lute); and a saxophonist to be announced.
