New Juilliard Ensemble Does Japanese Avant-Garde at Alice Tully Hall

One conclusion to be drawn from the New Juilliard Ensemble’s concert at Alice Tully Hall on Friday evening is that there are few generalizations to be made about Japanese avant-garde classical music around the turn of the 21st century. The concert, among the last offerings of Carnegie Hall’s JapanNYC festival, featured six works by as many composers, all born after World War II and not very much alike.
