Downtown Music Gallery Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary with The Debut Performance of this Super Trio..
RAOUL BJORKENHEIM, MORGAN AGREN & Special Guest BILL LASWELL!

Raoul Bjorkenheim returns from Helsinki for a week of rehearsing & recording with this amazing new trio, and they will play their first-ever live set – for us at

The Bowery Poetry Club
308 Bowery, between Houston and Bleecker
$20 General Admission / http://www.bowerypoetry.com/?#Event/94050

Multi-discipline fret-meister Raoul Bjorkenheim has wowed audiences worldwide, starting in 1985 with his group Krakatua [on ECM], and more recently with Scorch Trio (with Ingebrigt Haker Flaten & Paal Nilssen-Love) as well the ‘DMG Trio’ (with William Parker & Hamid Drake) and his duo work with Lukas Ligeti. Mr. Bjorkenheim has also recorded with Paul Schutze, Nicky Skopelitis, Edward Vesala, and Trevor Dunn. He’s done solo discs, and composed for/recorded with orchestra. Raoul has recordings spanning over 25 years released on TUM, Rune Grammofon, Cuneiform, Nemu, Douglas, and even for our own DMG/ARC label.

Morgan Agren is one of Europe’s finest drummers, co-leading the great prog band Mats/Morgan Band (currently on Cuneiform) with his partner, keyboardist Mats Oberg. Mr. Morgan was once a member of (Frank) Zappa’s Universe, as well as working with Kaipa, Fleshquartet, Simon Steensland, and also with his brother Jimmy Agren, the known slide guitar wiz.

Bill Laswell, a legendary unique stylist of very-low end eclectric Deep Bass, remains one of the most influential musicians during a span of three decades, with over 700 (!) recordings/albums to his credit, having worked with – and produced – a genre-bending who’s who of world-famous musicians that would literally take another five paragraphs to mention here – so we’ll only do a short one: His own projects/bands like Material, Praxis, Painkiller, Last Exit ..and his collaborations with Fred Frith, John Zorn, Gigi Shibabaw, Herbie Hancock, Sly & Robbie, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Sharrock, Ginger Baker, Tony Williams, Brian Eno, Toshinori Kondo, Peter Brotzmann, Mick Jagger, Bachir Attar, Motorhead, Simon Shaheen, PIL, Derek Bailey, Sussan Deyhim, Laurie Anderson, Iggy Pop, Henry Threadgill, Pharoah Sanders, al, et al, et al …!!! Given his CV and work-ethic, his appearances on NYC – or any – stages, are RARE!

In October Mr. Laswell will launch a new international label known as Method of Defiance Technologies (MODT) with two new releases, Jahbulon and Incunabula, from his ongoing project Method of Defiance, each one will feature different guests… and a great new solo album from Gigi!
