From the National Post:

Four and a half hours of any one composer’s music in an evening is excessive — but no one does excess like John Zorn. The downtown Manhattan saxophonist, composer, label owner (of Tzadik) and promoter (at the not-for-profit space The Stone) is releasing no fewer than 12 albums of his music this year.

It’s a tradition at the Montreal Jazz Festival for “Special Invitation” artists to play three or four nights in a row with a few different collaborators; Zorn, instead, brought 18 fellow musicians up from New York to play some of the hundreds of compositions in his Masada and Book of Angels songbooks (short pieces using Jewish modes) — in two connected shows on the same night.
