From the Bohemian in Exile:
Wed., May 5: BoxDeserter (Thollem McDonas, Skeeter Shelton, Jeff Marx, Joel Peterson, Marko Novachcoff and more!) at Le Petit Zinc
Our buddy Thollem McDonas is back in town for two shows. Night number one features the Bay-area based pianist with the improvising collective that is his Detroit “house band,” BoxDeserter. The trio version of BoxDeserter with Shelton and Peterson toured the east and near-west last year and this will be the first reunion of it’s members. Also on hand will be the members of BoxDeserter that released the CD, “Two Revolutions,” on California’s Edgetone Records.Doors at 8 pm; $5-10 suggested donation. Food will be available at Le Petit Zinc during the show!
Thurs. May 6: Tsigoti (Thollem McDonas with Italian Musicians, Dark Red at The Old Miami
The second night of Thollem’s visit is the Detroit debut of his group with three Italian musicians, Tsigoti. It finds Thollem in an unusual role- singing protest tunes in a prog/punk rock band that uses his protean piano technique in a visceral direction. Their new CD is on the revived, legendary ESP-Disk label.Doors at 9:30, Music approximately at 10 pm; $5 min.
