Los Totopos
Tim Berne, sax
Oscar Noriega, clarinets
Matt Mitchell, piano
Ches Smith, drums

Tim Berne’s new touring band, is a potent blend of new voices and new ideas. Oscar Noriega (woodwinds), Matt Mitchell (keyboards) and Ches Smith (percussion) bring fresh sounds and vibrant energy. Berne responds with a stunning book of new pieces balancing compositional rigor with fluid group improvisation. Hypnotic rhythms and long, seductive melodies collide with jagged dissonances and surprising textural shifts. A lush, organic blend of saxophones and clarinets is layered with electronic and acoustic keyboards and an ever-changing tapestry of percussion. Freedom and discipline, consonance and discord, past, present and future- all work together to power this new band from Tim Berne.

December 5th
8:30 pm $10 Suggested

The Axis Trio
Amino Belyamani – Piano
Sam Minaie – Bass
Qasim Naqvi – Drums

While retaining a vested interest in all genres of music from Stravinsky to Aphex Twin, Axis has developed a coloristic approach to performance and writing, with a special view to blurring and blinding the lines between musical styles and taking no prisoners.

December 12th
8:30 pm $10 Suggested

Slow To Wake
Topu Lyo – cello
Bryan Teoh – cello
Ben Gallina – basses
Shane Rettig – keys and laptop
EJ Fry – drums and laptop
Slow To Wake conjure images of grainy ’60s film through the use of instrumental rock, other-worldly jazz & ambient soundscapes. They shamelessly juxtapose lush strings & edgy electronics to provide a modern soundtrack to pristine beauty and urban decay.
