Corey Wilkes is of age

The Chicago Tribune discusses Wilkes’ new CD and upcoming shows.

Just last month, Wilkes released his second CD, “Cries from tha Ghetto” (Pi Recordings), a bold follow-up to his debut recording of the year before, “Drop It” (Delmark Records). If the first recording established the heady lyricism of Wilkes’ music and the scope of his artistic ambition (with its dramatic fusion of music and poetry), the sophomore CD pushes vigorously into avant-garde territory.
