JON IRABAGON/PETER EVANS (Friday) Mr. Irabagon, the energetic young alto saxophonist who recently took first place in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, leads a tribute to Sonny Rollins with a strenuous trio featuring the bassist Peter Brendler and the drummer Jeff Davis. Sharing the bill is another trio, led by the incisive trumpeter Peter Evans — Mr. Irabagon’s front-line partner in the free-bop outfit Mostly Other People Do the Killing — and featuring Tom Blancarte on bass and Kevin Shea on drums. STEVE LEHMAN OCTET (Friday and Saturday) The saxophonist Steve Lehman pursues an abstract lyricism informed by myriad traditions. TONY MALABY CELLO TRIO (Friday and Saturday) Tony Malaby is a tenor and soprano saxophonist who often weighs bluster against structure.
