From the Times.

DAVE DOUGLAS AND BRASS ECSTASY (Tuesday) Mr. Douglas, the indefatigable trumpeter, cornetist and composer, recently engineered the premiere of the piece “Chicago Calling: Bowie, Barack and the Brass Ring,” featuring this puckishly brass-heavy band. It’s safe to expect some of that Windy City-themed ebullience here. At 10 p.m., Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street, Greenwich Village, (212) 796 0741, lepoissonrouge.com; $20. (Chinen)

HARRIS EISENSTADT CANADA DAY (Friday) Harris Eisenstadt, a drummer with strong experimental tendencies, explores his own music in this band with the trumpeter Nate Wooley, the saxophonist Matt Bauder, the vibraphonist Chris Dingman and the bassist Chris Lightcap. At 9 and 10:30 p.m., Cornelia Street Café, 29 Cornelia Street, West Village, (212) 989-9319, corneliastreetcafe.com; cover, $10, with a one-drink minimum. (Chinen)

? ERIK FRIEDLANDER (Thursday) “Broken Arm Trio” (Skipstone), the springy new album by Mr. Friedlander, a cellist, trafficks in a boppish pointillism suitable for nimble fingerpicking. Along with his trio partners — the bassist Trevor Dunn and the drummer Mike Sarin, who both rejoin him here — Mr. Friedlander manages to create an effervescent small-group jazz, shot through with wit and soul. At 10 p.m., the Stone, Avenue C and Second Street, East Village, thestonenyc.com; cover, $10. (Chinen)

THE HUNGRY GHOSTS/HELLBENT (Saturday) Two raucous but righteous bands, each steered by a saxophonist with keen attunement to texture. The Hungry Ghosts, a project of Briggan Krauss, feature Jonathan Goldberger on guitar, Shanir Blomenkranz on bass and Ches Smith on drums (at 8 p.m.); Hellbent, led by Michael Blake, has Marcus Rojas on tuba, Charlie Burnham on violin and Calvin Weston on drums (at 10). At the Stone, Avenue C and Second Street, East Village, thestonenyc.com; cover, $10 per set. (Chinen)

PHAROAH SANDERS (Wednesday and Thursday) Mr. Sanders, an authoritative ambassador of the 1960s avant-garde, has never stopped imbuing his performances with the tone of a spiritual quest; he has worthy acolytes in the pianist William Henderson, the bassist Nat Reeves and the drummer Joe Farnsworth. (Through Dec. 14.) At 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., Iridium, 1650 Broadway at 51st Street, (212) 582-2121, iridiumjazzclub.com; cover, $35, with a $10 minimum. (Chinen)

JENNY SCHEINMAN (Tuesday) Ms. Scheinman is the rare jazz violinist who embraces her instrument’s folksier side without making concessions to genre. Her weekly gig involves a rotating cast of players; in this installment, the guitarist Steve Cardenas. At 7 p.m., Barbès, 376 Ninth Street, at Sixth Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn, (347) 422-0248, barbesbrooklyn.com; cover, $10. (Chinen)
