From The Kalamazoo News:
Jazz/world music percussionist Cyro Baptista wants Kalamazoo to engage in “anthropofagia.”
The term literally means “people eating people,” Baptista said from his home in Tenafly, N.J. “But in reality, people eat the spirit of other people.”
It seems that this Wednesday, Fontana Chamber Arts will bring in the wildest chamber-music group it has ever brought to Kalamazoo. But Baptista, 58, is not a cannibal, nor is he as demented as he seems based on the CD’s cover photos, in which he glares from under a rain-forest native’s headdress.
