Scott Brazieal’s Songs from the Empire

Scott Brazieal is an occasional contributor to AMN. But you also might know him as the keyboard player of avant-rock bands Cartoon and PFS, as well as a touring and recording member of 5uu’s and Thinking Plague.

For the last few years, Scott has been recording and producing a new album, Songs from the Empire. And he’s decided to make it available for free at Virb.com.

Having heard it only once through (and being admittedly biased since I’ve been a fan of Scott’s music for over 15 years), it is one of the more intriguing recordings I’ve heard in quite a while. Songs From the Empire builds upon influences as diverse as modern classical, progressive rock, electronic, and New Weird America. The overall feel, as the title might suggest, is a melancholy and brooding anger, with more than a little sadness.

But words are cheap. Go listen. You’ve got nothing to lose.
