William Parker, the famed bassist and preeminent figure in free jazz today,
penetrates and draws inspiration from the songbook of Curtis Mayfield in an
unprecedented exploration of what Parker terms, “the soundtrack of the civil
rights movement.” Fiery, improvised vocals unearth and expand upon the
political consciousness of Mayfield’s work, in a performance that combines
the avant-garde forms and progressive attitudes of two musical legends.
Philadelphia’s own Ursula Rucker, best known for her work with The Roots,
and Dave Burrell will join Parker for this special engagement!

parallel worlds of Extreme Computer Music and Black Metal, KTL is Stephen
O’Malley (SUNNO))), Burning Witch, Khanate) and Peter Rehberg (PITA). Beta
Popes features Seattle native Skerik, founding member of Critters Buggin’
and Garage a Trois with Stanton Moore, Charlie Hunter and Marco Benevento;
the remarkable drummer Bobby Previte (Steve Swallow, Steven Bernstein, John
Zorn, John Medeski); and Jamie Saft, best know for his work in John Zorn’s
Electric Masada and Merzbow.
