CEAIT Festival at REDCAT

Coming this weekend at REDCAT:

April 25-26, 2008

CEAIT Festival: Jason Kahn | The Hub

“Forget all your prejudices about electronic music being academic and boring: This stuff sizzles with rhythm, humor, and dynamics.” High Performance

The genre-defying annual festival from the CalArts Center for Experiments in Art, Information and Technology returns to REDCAT with a new lineup of experimental music. The fest this year opens with Jason Kahn, whose work draws on electronic and acoustic sound sources to create slowly developing compositions that evoke timelessness and sound as a physical and psychological entity. Kahn performs here with Olivia Block, Ulrich Krieger and Mark Trayle. The second night features The Hub, a Bay Area-based collective exploring computer networks as a medium for composition and performance. Its members — John Bischoff, Chris Brown, Scot Gresham-Lancaster, Tim Perkis, Phil Stone and Mark Trayle — all custom-build their own hardware and software instruments.

Funded in part by a grant from Native Instruments
