Victoriaville draws big names to musique actuelle festival

VICTO is one again previewed.

With pioneering jazz figures John Zorn and Roscoe Mitchell, some experimental rock and noise, and a smattering of electronica, the Festival de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville is set for a retrospective as its 25th edition.

The five-day creative music festival opens Thursday, May 15 with Montreal based saxophonist/composer Jean Derome, a dozen of the city’s best musique actuelle musicians and a work that salutes Victo.

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey continues musical journey

The latest from JFJO is reviewed.

The new Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey studio album, the group’s first in three years, is an impressionistic journey through the day of a 7-year-old child.

The new release, “Lil’ Tae Rides Again,” clocks in at about 40 minutes of what iTunes considers unclassifiable music. It is available on CD and vinyl, and of course, digitally.
