Jazz Listings From The New York Times

Upcoming shows in the Times:

HAN BENNINK AND DAVE DOUGLAS (Wednesday) About a decade ago the eminent Dutch drummer Han Bennink made a frisky duo record with the clever and industrious trumpeter Dave Douglas. For this engagement the two artists, hailing from separate generations but similar aesthetic regions, match wits with an additional partner, the bassist Eric Revis. At 8 and 10 p.m., Club Midway, 25 Avenue B, near Third Street, East Village, (212) 253-2595, clubmidway.com; $15 per set. (Nate Chinen)

BROOKLYN JAZZ UNDERGROUND FESTIVAL (Thursday) The Brooklyn Jazz Underground is a coalition of artists united by aesthetics as well as by geography; this is its second annual festival aimed at those who still seek out their music fix in the West Village. Opening night will include groups led by the bassist Anne Mette Iversen, the trombonist Alan Ferber and the pianist Benny Lackner. (Through Jan. 19.) At 8 and 10 p.m. and midnight, Smalls, 183 West 10th Street, West Village; smallsjazzclub.com; brooklynjazz.org; cover, $20. (Chinen)

KONCEPTIONS AT BISCUIT (Tuesday) This left-leaning series begins with a trio led by the trumpeter Nate Wooley, with the bassist Reuben Radding and the drummer Harris Eisenstadt. Then the pianist and singer Akiko Pavolka leads House of Illusion, with Pete Rende on keyboards; Matt Pavolka, her husband, on bass; and Ted Poor on drums. At 8:30 and 9:45 p.m., Biscuit BBQ, 230 Fifth Avenue, at President Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn, (718) 399-2161, myspace.com/konceptions; cover, $5, with a $6 minimum. (Chinen)

STEVE LEHMAN QUINTET (Friday) On his excellent recent album, “On Meaning” (Pi), the alto saxophonist Steve Lehman presents this working band with tight compositional forms and a mandate of combustion. That the results are so sharp can partly be credited to the players, notably Jonathan Finlayson on trumpet, and Tyshawn Sorey on drums. At 9 and 10:30 p.m., Jazz Gallery, 290 Hudson Street, at Spring Street, South Village, (212) 242-1063, jazzgallery.org; cover, $15; $10 for members.

NIGHT OF THE RAVISHED LIMBS (Wednesday) The first set of this series features White Blue Yellow and Clouds, a group dreamed up by Matt Bauder, a saxophonist and guitarist. The second set spotlights Decoupage, led by the trombonist Curtis Hasselbring, with Mary Halvorson on guitar, Matt Moran on vibraphone and Ches Smith on drums. At 8 and 10 p.m., Barbès, 376 Ninth Street, at Sixth Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn, (718) 965-9177, barbesbrooklyn.com; suggested donation, $10. (Chinen)
