Rob Brown Trio Coming To Firehouse 12 This Friday

From http://www.improvisedcommunications.com:

The Rob Brown Trio will return to New Haven’s Firehouse 12 on Friday, November 2nd to perform new music commissioned by Chamber Music America as well as selections from its latest CD, Sounds (Clean Feed Records). Led by New York alto saxophonist/composer Rob Brown, this unusual working ensemble features New Haven-based cellist Daniel Levin (who will appear again with his own group, the Daniel Levin Quartet, on December 7th) and percussionist Satoshi Takeishi.

“Brown is stretching the elastic of music-making, just like Ornette Coleman and Albert Ayler once did,” wrote AllAboutJazz.com’s Mark Corroto in a recent review of Sounds. He has been lauded by critics as “one of the most engaging voices of his generation on the alto” (Alain Drouot, All Music Guide), “one of the hardest hitting alto players currently on the scene” (Bill Shoemaker, JazzTimes) and “one of the best composers and players on New York’s experimental-jazz fringe” (Ben Ratliff, New York Times).

In a career that spans nearly 25 years, Brown has regularly performed with many of the most recognizable names in creative improvised music, including Anthony Braxton, Whit Dickey, Henry Grimes, Joe Morris, Matthew Shipp and Alan Silva. Most notably, he has earned widespread notice for his long association with William Parker in such ensembles as the William Parker Quartet, In Order To Survive and The Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra. Brown’s work under his own name includes 17 recordings as a leader/co-leader, multiple commissions as a composer and positions as the musical director of two dance companies, Elaine Shipman’s SITU Dance Troupe and the K-2 Dance Company.
