AMN is Mobile!

Yesterday we installed a module to the site which allows improved rendering on a mobile phone browser. I’ve tried it on my Nokia N70 and indeed, it does look better than before. The module will automatically detect that you are on a mobile browser and will adjust the site accordingly. If you’re not mobile you won’t notice a difference.

Musique Machine Reviews

From Musique Machine:

Government Alpha – Venomous Cumulus Cloud

Venomous Cumulus Cloud kicks up one hell of a dense psychedelic shifting kaleidoscope of noise. Balancing perfectly the need to be brutal and complex in its texture and use of sound. Simply put this is one hell of a ride, its prime noise on the same level as some of Merzbow’s work.

Marhaug/Henrik – Grand Mutation

Grand Mutation is a gothic tinged sound strew collaboration between Norwegian noise master Lasse Marhaug and fellow Norwegian Composer Nils Henrik Asheim. The album conjures up a heady world of improvised church organ, noise and electronic treatments.

Moljebka Pvlse – Sadalsuud
Somewhere on Sadalsuud a woman whispers the mantra: “I have found myself, away from this world”. Probably somewhere near the star in the Aquarius constellation, “The luckiest of them all” from its originally Arabic meaning, after which this piece is named.

Feu Follet & Miina Virtanen – The Icicle Lectures Vol. 1
In a sense this is the antithesis to the Bexar Bexar album I reviewed earlier. That album conveyed the feeling of chilling out on an afternoon, after a burning hot day. This album is more of a chill, but equally soothing.

“Puts serious compositional ideas and talent to work producing pleasure, and lots of it” -Santa Barbara Independent

This show celebrates the release of the Gove County String Quartet’s first CD release!

Joining bass player Connolly on stage will be Sally Barr (violin), Laura Hackstein (violin), and Kirsten Monke (viola). The show will also feature the marvelous Anna Abbey on vocals and piano, and a new series of pieces for saw and piano.

Connolly’s style has been characterized as “bringing together folk, chamber music improvisation, and a touch of something inordinately down-home to create some of the most loving, warm, and beautiful tunes”. Additionally acclaimed as a bassist, he performs in a variety of classical, jazz, folk, and free improvisation settings, with collaborators as varied as the Nate Birkey Quintet, Jeff Kaiser, Queen Mab, Michael Frey, The Plymouth Philharmonic, and Area 51. He has also won several local awards for his dance and theater music, with credits including Lit Moon Theater Company productions of Peer Gynt, Pinocchio, and Hamlet.

“oscillating between reflective and giddy stuff, with dollops of improvisatory anarchy …Connolly never forgets musicality, however light-headed things might get.” -Santa Barbara Independent
