ETHNIC HERITAGE ENSEMBLE with FAREED HAQUE
$22/$18 students & seniorsKahil El’Zabar (drums, earthdrums, kalimba, percussion)

Fareed Haque (electric and acoustic guitars)In celebration of Black History Month, the Ethnics return to Baltimore.
The Ethnic Heritage Ensemble was formed shortly after percussionist
Kahil El’Zabar graduated from the school of the Association for the
Advancement of Creative Musicians in 1976 specifically to play music that
combined contemporary African American musical styles, like jazz, with more
traditional African instrumentation and rhythms. The results are stirring
and highly infectious! For these concerts they will present music from the
new recording “Hot and Heavy”.
“With folkish simplicity and beguilingly subdued dynamics, The Ethnic
Heritage Ensemble-drums, guitar and two horns-achieves an effect something
like an ad hoc percussion band walking the second line, with a little James
Brown thrown in.” – DOWNBEATWednesday, February 21, 8 & 9:30 pm
