Director Dave Douglas, along with co-directors Roy Campbell and Jon Nelson, proudly announce the 2006 schedule of events for the fourth annual Festival of New Trumpet Music – aka FONT Music, taking place September 15 through October 15! This year the Festival opens with a bang on Opening Weekend, September 15-17, with trumpet players uptown, downtown, midtown, and even in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (see below for full details). For the first time FONT Music has taken a role in creating new music by commissioning five trumpeter/ composers. With assistance from the Greenwall Foundation this series will take place at Makor on October 3, 4, and 5. FONT Music 2006 will also feature a series of FREE masterclasses and $10 concerts to take place at The Yamaha Artist Services Center on Sundays (9/17, 9/24, 10/1 and 10/8), featuring top players from the classical and new music genres. The final event of the Festival, on October 15, will be dedicated to an all-star benefit concert for The Fund For Public Schools, aimed at helping to keep music alive and well in New York’s City’s public school system.
