Composer and saxophonist John Zorn has been a prolific force on the avant-garde music scene for decades. This summer and fall, venues throughout New York and around the world are celebrating his 60th birthday.
Mr. Zorn’s catalog is expansive; he’s worked in experimental jazz, composed string quartets and embraced klezmer. Yet the experimental nature and extreme genre-crossings can be challenging if you’re not familiar with his work.
