From Hearts of Space:
1983-2013: the HEARTS of SPACE 30TH & 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
MAY 3-4-5, 2013
The Hearts of Space radio program was born in 1973 at KPFA-FM in Berkeley. We began national syndication 10 years later in 1983. So 2013 is a year of milestones — in addition to the 30 and 40 year anniversaries, we’ll be passing program #1,000 in the HOS series!
AMBIcon 2013 is a weekend event hosted by Hearts of Space producer STEPHEN HILL, organized around 4 live surround-sound concerts featuring 8 core Hearts of Space artists: DAVID DARLING, STEPHAN MICUS, JEFF PEARCE, ROBERT RICH, STEVE ROACH, MICHAEL STEARNS, STELLAMARA, and TIM STORY. We’ll also have interviews and Q&A sessions.

DECEMBER brings Charming Hostess to our residency at Meridian Gallery in SF, with a new installation on teraphim. Teraphim are often translated as “household gods”–they were figures used for home worship, for divination, to seek justice and to determine authority. Participate in our installation during the day on Thursdays, or come Thursday nights for our Jewish music series. We are so excited to be at Meridian with the incomparable Dohee Lee…What an honor. See you soon for bright lights on a dark night!
Meridian Gallery Residency: Dark Nights, Bright Lights
Thursdays in December: 6, 13, 20
12PM-5PM: Participate in “Teraphim”–hepatoscopy, belomancy, text study, meditative movement, idol-contemplation and more! See website for details.
8PM: Jewish music series. Join Charming Hostess and friends as we move from Khanukah to Solstice, from mystic contemplation to sweaty dancing, from the intimate to the apocalyptic. Charming Hostess will open each evening with a short set and then be followed by Jewish luminaries who will light up this intimate space. Get apocalyptic for Khanukah!

“Morning Sun, Harvest Moon” (2010), his debut disc as a group leader, came about almost by accident. It features an all-star lineup of drummers Avreeayl Ra and Ernie Adams, woodwind specialists Mars Williams and Ed Wilkerson, and violinist James Sanders. Augmented by Jim Baker on synth and singer Saalik Ziyad, this cast of seasoned and versatile veterans will cap the eighth annual Umbrella Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music at 10 p.m. Sunday at the Hungry Brain, 2319 W. Belmont.
