Experimental Voice in 3 Acts
Saturday, October 1st 8:30 PM $10 Suggested Donation
Gelsey Bell – voice/piano
Odeya Nini – voice
Maria Stankova – voice
Gelsey Bell is a singer, songwriter, and scholar. She has released two studio albums, Under A Piano (2005) and In Place of Arms (2010), and two experimental albums, February (2008) and Love Is Just a Crack In the Space of You (2009). Composer and vocalist Odeya Nini, constructs acoustic, electro acoustic, and electronic music, incorporating experimental improvisation and malleable forms. Maria Stankova is a vocalist/composer who grew up in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her recent musics explore the liberating powers of restriction and the (im)possibilities of timbre in both performance and composition.Loop 2.4.3

Ensemble, Et Al. 8:30 PM
A Brooklyn-based pseudo-classical percussion ensemble led by Ron Tucker.
http://www.ensembleetal.com/
Loop 2.4.3 9:30 PM
Loop 2.4.3 is a composer/performer duo that has drawn comparisons to Steve Reich, Battles, Harry Partch, Moondog, Konono No.1, Brian Eno, and Belle Orchestre – an assortment that alludes to their hard to classify, yet visceral aesthetic.Thomas Kozumplik – percussion
Lorne Watson – percussionhttp://www.loop243.com/
This concert showcases 2 groups that both feature drums and keyboard percussion, yet with very different and uniquely interesting results. Melodicism and infectious rhythm are uniting factors, but ensemble, et al focuses more on meditative grooves, while Loop 2.4.3 creates sonic journeys tinged with romanticism and psychedelia.
Ron Tucker, the creator of ensemble, et al, met Loop 2.4.3 at a live show and asked to buy the score for their work, Zodiac Dust, to perform it with a group he was creating. This stimulated Kozumplik and Watson to actually write the piece out! It seems natural that these two groups will now share the stage for the first time.

The Lab, 2948 16th St., SF
23five Incorporated, swissnex San Francisco, & The Lab present:
Infrasound (Oakland), Jason Kahn (Switzerland), Francisco Meirino (Switzerland)
On September 27, 23five celebrates 10 years of Infrasound, the acclaimed collaborative project between Scott Arford and Randy Yau. These two sound artists engage the architecture of a particular performance space in manipulating the resonant frequencies of that space through finely tuned broadcast of specific frequencies at necessary loud volumes. The low frequencies literally rattle the walls and manifest standing waves through the space. As such, Infrasound performances are experienced only in a live context; and they have never played the same space twice. Infrasound will also be joined by the pioneering electro-acoustic minimalist Jason Kahn and the noise tactician of failed electronics Francisco Meirino. Preceding Infrasound, Kahn and Meirino will be presenting two solo sets and a collaborative set.

addleds (maximalized minimalism? aggro-gagaku improv?) and Bristle (curveball-riddled chamber jazz)
addleds – the quartet of Kyle Bruckmann (oboe/English horn), Tony Dryer (double bass), Jacob Felix Heule (percussion) and Kanoko Nishi (koto) — explore timbral and textural extremes of distended instrumental technique via improvisation and open-ended compositional strategies. Their music tends towards a brutalist minimalism as informed by the noise underground as by recent developments in the field of free improvisation.
Bristle’s unique sound is a fortunate accident: when saxophonists/clarinetists Cory Wright and Randy McKean asked bassist Lisa Mezzacappa to join them in 2009 to perform their original compositions, they were looking for a drummer to round out the quartet. A set of Spinal Tap-ish circumstances led them instead to draft violinist/oboist Murray Campbell, and this one-of-a-kind strings-and-reeds ensemble was born. Bristle combines an intuitive chamber music sensibility with an off-kilter improvisational approach, seamlessly mixing fierce solo statements with intricate group textures in its pieces.Saturday, Oct. 1, 8pm
