Among the numerous innovations instituted at Bargemusic by the violinist Mark Peskanov since he became its president and executive and artistic director in 2006, the least likely wrinkle has proved the most durable. Here and Now, an irregularly scheduled but consistently active series devoted to contemporary music, has enlivened the offerings at this longtime bastion for conventional fare.
In 2008 Mr. Peskanov filled Bargemusic’s Labor Day weekend concerts with Here and Now programs, a notion that has since become a de facto festival. Evident in this year’s changeable smorgasbord, laid out on Thursday evening and served up with varying courses through Sunday afternoon, was the surprising stylistic breadth Mr. Peskanov’s neighborly open-mindedness has welcomed.
