Andrew Hayleck is an electro-acoustic musician who lives in Baltimore, Maryland. He uses a Paia modular synthesizer, contact microphone, mixer, and two raw speakers in improvisation, utilizing the feedback and resonance characteristics of a variety of materials. He is presently building a camera obscura and documenting the slow changes of light within. Recordings include: “Two Gong/Wire Pieces” (Ehse), “Gong/Wire” (Earlids), “Various Recordings Involving Ice” (HereSee), and “The Disappearing Floor” (Recorded).

Tyler Wilcox was norn in 1979 in silver spring maryland, raised in and around baltimore. Began composing glacial drone based tape music in 2001. Switched to reeds in 2003 with a desire to embody fleeting sound phenomena. Moved to Washington state in 2005 to experience wild nature in the cascades. Experiencing true silence and the white noise of nature slowed and opened his music. Current collaborators Gust Burns, Jeffrey Allport, Kelvin PIttman, Paul Neidhardt, Mara Sedlins, Wilson Shook, and Mark Collins.

Baltimore’s Paul Neidhardt is one of the country’s most astonishing new music percussionists. A trained, highly disciplined player with a flair for complex textural sound produced by friction, Neidhardt’s approach to improvising covers the majority of the terrain explored by the explosive side of European free music and subtle textural players like Sean Meehan and Jason Kahn, while retaining a freshness and flexibility of purpose all his own. His background playing rock and African music adds a potential for propulsive intesnivty to his playing not usually found in players so skilled in the arts of minimalist reductionism. Despite recovering from injuries that limited his time playing in recent years, he is a highly in-demand player, working with groups like Trokeneis, Death in the Maze, and Multiphonic Choir, as well as frequent collaborations with Jack Wright. He is currently a member of the Red Room collective and High Zero Foundation.

A Tradition of Change: Review of SFSound Show

Pierre Schaeffer at the Studio 54 desk adjusti...

From Mark Alburger:

It’s hard to believe that electroacoustic music has been around for more than 60 years. Dating back at least to 1948 with Pierre Schaeffer‘s first tape compositions (a style dubbed Musique Concrete), the genre flourishes in many contexts. One such is chamber music of a live acoustic soloist in consort with electronically generated sounds, and it was this type of concert that was presented, with resounding success, on July 16, by SFSound at Community Music Center.

Michael Bierylo / Packing for Egypt in Germany

From Michael Bierylo:

Boston, MA, July 12, 2010. Packing for Egypt (US) and Pierce Warnecke (FR) will be performing two shows in Berlin: Monday, August 9 at Cafe Wendel and Saturday, August 14 at Madame Claude.

These performances feature the talents of two musical generations. Michael Bierylo has been a member of the seminal US new music group Birdsongs of the Mesozoic since 1992. For these dates he will focus on laptop performance using the group’s recordings for source material, as well as new work that will be part of an upcoming Cuneiform Birdsongs release. Pierce was a student of his at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, and has gone on to establish himself as an artist with an ever-expanding catalog of music releases and installation pieces. The Wendel Cafe performance will focus on work that is more experimental in nature and will include live video. The Madame Claude performance will feature club music rooted in IDM, that’s suited for the venue’s salon listening environment.
