All three were heavily played at AMN Central this morning and receive our stamp of approval. Good stuff.

Interview with Mary Halvorson

From Roulette:

On Thursday, March 18th at Roulette, Van Lier Fellowship artist Mary Halvorson premieres a set of new pieces for the Mary Halvorson Quintet as well as material from her upcoming release on Firehouse 12 Records. In addition to her own band, The Mary Halvorson Trio, she co-leads a chamber music duo with violist Jessica Pavone and the avant-rock band, People, with drummer Kevin Shea. A veteran of the ensembles of esteemed saxophonist/composer Anthony Braxton, she has also performed with groups led by Tim Berne, Taylor Ho Bynum, Trevor Dunn, Tomas Fujiwara, Curtis Hasselbring, Tony Malaby, Myra Melford, Nicole Mitchell, Jason Moran, Marc Ribot, Matana Roberts, Elliott Sharp, John Tchicai and Matthew Welch among many others.

Festival International de Jazz de Montréal

Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society plays the Galapagos Arts Space April 10th. Also, they have posted MP3s from a recent live performance.

The Montreal Jazz Fest provides us with Avant Garde 101.

Anthony Braxton now has a blog which promises a full website launch this summer.

In other news, I recently received a copy of Barry Cleveland’s Hologramatron, new on Moonjune Records. I listened to it five times yesterday, and serial listening is rare for me. While it is not overtly avant, I think it is a great release.
