Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program

Grant opportunities from Chamber Music America:

Chamber Music America, the national service organization for the chamber music profession, is pleased to announce its upcoming Classical Commissioning Program deadline.

Chamber Music America (CMA) offers support to U.S.-based classical/contemporary ensembles, presenters and festivals for commissioning American composers to create new chamber works. The program provides funding for the composer’s fee, the ensemble’s rehearsal honorarium, and copying costs.

CMA defines chamber music as music for small ensembles (2–10 musicians) whose members perform one to a part, generally without a conductor. Compositions may represent a diverse musical spectrum, including contemporary art music, world music, and works that include electronics.

New works created through this program must be performed a minimum of three times in the U.S.

Guidelines and application forms, in MS Word and Adobe formats, can be downloaded and printed from the CMA website, www.chamber-music.org. (Applications must be submitted in hard copy.)

Applications must be received no later than Friday, April 9, 2010, 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

The follow-up to the group’s 2007 debut, True Events (482 Music), this release features 10 new tracks mixing pre-conceived elements, spontaneous improvisation and a deeply intuitive connection developed through years of working together. Fujiwara and Bynum have been regular collaborators for nearly two decades, most recently as members of such ensembles as Positive Catastrophe, the Taylor Ho Bynum Trio/Sextet and The Thirteenth Assembly.
